The aim of this subject is to provide information on the causes and consequences of disease including basic pathogenetic mechanisms and morphological manifestations. Students acquire knowledge of the basic medical terminology in relation to the general symtoms of disorders. In the course of the 5th semester, the course focuses on general pathology which includes necroses, gangrene, atrophies, dystrophies, disturbances in water distribution and mineral metabolism and, pigmentations, circulatory disorders, inflammation, general oncology, infectious diseases and, environmental and nutritional pathology. The 6th semester follows up with systematic pathology: special issues of heart, vessels, respiratory, gastrointestinal, urinary, genital tracts, endocrine, neural, bone, joint and soft tissue systems as well as dermatopathology and diseases of infancy and childhood. The study of pathology terminates in a final exam divided into practical (microscopic slide evaluation) and theoretical (writen test and interview) parts.
